Welcome to Kindergarten!

I am so excited to be starting a new year in kindergarten.  We've been having a lot of fun getting to know one another these first few weeks.  The beginning the year is all about learning routines and establishing classroom community.   We have spent time talking about the "3 Be's" at Chamberlin School...

BE RESPECTFUL
BE RESPONSIBLE
BE SAFE

We have learned what these expectations mean in all settings around our building.  Students have been earning "Bee Bucks" which we trade in for honey cells to earn a schoolwide celebration!!  I am so pleased by how smoothly things are going in room 3!

Recently, we had an AMAZING experience in our classroom.  One of our caterpillars was showing signs of being ready to form into a chrysalis.  We stopped what we were doing and gathered to watch.  It was a little hard for everyone to see what was happening in the little jar, so I decided to use our document camera to zoom in on the action.  Wow!  We were enthralled by what we saw!

It has been a GREAT year for Monarchs.  In the end, we found close to 30 caterpillars.  We shared them with other classrooms at Chamberlin, and were able to observe all three stages of the butterfly life cycle.  The children enjoyed looking at books on the subject and even did some art work to show what they learned.

This blog will be a great way for you to see what we're up to in kindergarten.  In the future, the children will be helping me to write it!  Please stay tuned!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:   "I love doing art.   It's kinda my thing."
